A two-year plan has been developed to procure more than 1,000 different medical inputs, including those for heart and kidney transplants.
The Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Agency said it is discussing the issue with the relevant institutions in Addis Ababa over the next two years.
The National Drug Procurement Directive will be reviewed every two years, and today’s discussion will focus on future medical inputs, the agency said in a statement.
It is stated that the discussion is aimed at incorporating new medical inputs that will be modified from previous purchases as well as new ones in future purchases.
In this discussion, the new list of inputs for the Federal Ministry of Health, kidney transplantation and cardiology, which are not on the previous list but are frequently requested by health facilities, are also mentioned in the new list.
The agency has so far reduced 489 out of 1,373 drugs, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and regiments.
It is also said that the management and experts of the concerned institutions are discussing the plan to provide 1,24 different types of medical inputs in the next two years.
