Former Addis Ababa Deputy Mayor Takele Uma responded on recent complaint of land grabbing by Ezema

It is possible to destroy a country with false information, but can’t not be built!
Although I am not in the right place to respond to this, I feel that it is a great pain to be unable to break free from this political thinking.
We have been taking strong action from the first day until the last day.
The steps we have taken at various times are also living witnesses.
When we took action to prevent illegal land grabbing, today’s critics were among those who campaigned for human rights and the displacement of citizens.
In the case of condominium houses for 20,000 farmers, it was decided by a cabinet a year and a half ago.
It was not carried out in secret but was made public by the state media.
Of the 67,000 households who have been evicted from their land and placed on their own land, they are at least 20,000 condominiums.
No other home has been illegally provided.
This is not something to be ashamed of, as we often say in public. We are proud of the reparations of the oppressed, displaced farmers!
We did not want it to be a city that was in conflict with the people around it, but a city that lived in love with the farmers around it. We realize that this is in the interest of the city’s residents.
It is unfortunate to see a group that has never shown concern for the displaced farmers ever used the harm of farmers today to gain acceptance.
Judgment is for the people, for our work speaks for itself, even if we try to tarnish our own efforts with false information!

Highlights from EZEMA’s study of the ongoing land grabbing in Addis Ababa (H.W tikus mereja by Hilina.S)๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น

Highlights from EZEMA’s study of the ongoing land grabbing in Addis Ababa:
โ€ข The city administration has seen and heard that illegally and organizedly occupied areas have been quickly mapped and planned and sold to a third party. They are used for production and commercial use, both in association and privately; Individuals and groups who should not be homeowners under any circumstances are given a home and residence permit.
โ€ข The main culprits in the land grab are those who claim to be farmers’ children; The places used to be our family lands; Sub-city and district officials in the vicinity of the raids are individuals who claim to have been evicted without adequate compensation.
โ€ข This land grab took place in broad daylight. Not only did the judiciary and the security services receive a lot of support, but they also played a key role in the case. It facilitates the occupation of the land by individuals, groups and organizations who want to benefit in various ways; They have used government power to protect and cover up illegal activities; After that, they invaded with the help of individuals.
โ€ข We were able to confirm that a total area of โ€‹โ€‹213,900 square kilometers was invaded in only a few areas identified in the study.
โ€ข It is also a clear act of government in relation to condominiums. By enacting unfair laws and regulations and illegally amending laws and regulations, the Cabinet and the Mayor were given special powers to distribute houses as they wished.
Accordingly, on June 12, 2012, all registered staff from the Oromia Regional State Bureaus’ Office near the Sarbet office were allotted thousands of houses, and those who were allotted were allotted June 16, 2012. On this day, all the employees were given a condominium block number and the house number was verified by their name, and we found out that they were given a residence permit with the house number given to them.
โ€ข Concerning the distribution of commercial houses in condominiums as development farmers, children and grandchildren; There is strong evidence that they have been divided into unions in the name of football support
