Lidetu Ayalew’s heartfelt appeal to the court yesterday
Honorable Court: When I first attended this hearing, I read what was written on the back of the court, “Our mission is to be an example of the rule of law,” and I hoped that I would get true justice from the courts that had acquitted me in the same way before. Today, I am appearing before this court to fulfill my legal duty and to show my respect for the court, not in the hope of justice. Honorable Court: I have to say this for the following reasons.
1st. The police are being given extra time to review the changes in the investigation process, but in the four trials I have attended so far, I have been given a series of appointments without any change in the spirit of the law.

2. I have been denied bail on the grounds that I have an appointment to go abroad for medical treatment, that I am currently suffering from a serious heart condition, that my life could be in danger of being infected with the CVD virus, and that the police charge does not preclude bail. Your Excellency, in light of the serious health problems I am in, I am not denied bail in the face of the most vulnerable prison in Korona, but my right to life, which is a fundamental human right. This shows that I have been sentenced to death before I was convicted.
3. We are not arguing with one government and one citizen before this esteemed court. According to the law, we are plaintiff and defendant. The Honorable Court should always stand up for the rights of the plaintiff and the defendant, while always accepting the plaintiff’s unreasonable request, and on the contrary, rejecting my informed request and discriminating against me.
4. When we look at the situation at the national level in general, we are seeing that justice is being done not from the courthouse but from the 4 kilo palace. While there are thousands of people in prison as a result of the current political crisis, we have all been denied the right to bail as if we had all committed the same crime and our case is being heard by only one judge and trial. Honorable Court, we are waiting for justice from the court, not from the 4Kilo government that is our plaintiff. The responsibility of the 4Kilo government is to enforce the law, not to interpret the law. Honorable Court, in general, these four points show that we are political prisoners, not legal. This is evidenced by the fact that I have recently been accused by the police of “attempting to overthrow the government at the request of the transitional government.” I do not expect real justice in this case, so my lawyer and I are on a date, so that the police and court cases are wasted, the endless police appointments are terminated, and when the case is politically motivated and the police say, “I have completed my investigation,” I will be sent to court. “I ask with great respect,” he said. We would like to express to the Ethiopian people and all concerned that not only Lidetu but also EDP are disappointed in this justice process and that the government and the government are solely responsible for any harm that may happen to them in prison.
